Discovered – currently not indexed means Google found the URL (sitemap or a link) and parked it. No last crawl date. Different animal from crawled but not indexed.
Why Google stalls
Slow server. Huge site with junk URLs eating crawl budget. Sitemap full of parameter garbage. Page buried with zero internal links. Google's docs on how Search works still put discovery ahead of crawling — discovery alone isn't a ticket to the front.
What we actually do
- Clean the sitemap — only canonical, indexable URLs. Our sitemap checker and sitemap freshness tools help spot rot.
- Link to important stuck pages from something already indexed.
- Trim soft traps and filter URLs you never wanted crawled.
- For pages that matter this week, submit through IndexMe / the Indexing API instead of waiting on the queue forever.
Manual Request Indexing is fine for a handful. For a backlog, use the dashboard and maybe bulk indexing. Plans if you outgrow the free room.
