How to Request Indexing in Google Search Console

Illustration of requesting indexing with the URL Inspection tool

Request Indexing is a nudge, not a bulk API. Use it for priority URLs — then get out of the way.

Open Search Console, paste a URL into the bar, wait for the report, hit Request indexing. That's the whole URL Inspection ritual. It queues a crawl. It does not guarantee an index.

When it makes sense

  • Homepage or a money page you just fixed.
  • A launch URL that needs eyes this week.
  • After you removed a noindex / fixed a 500 and want a re-check.

When it doesn't: 200 product URLs, yesterday's entire blog dump, or hammering the same thin page. You'll hit the daily cap — we covered workarounds (the honest ones) in bypassing the GSC daily limit.

Our workflow

Save console clicks for diagnostics. Run volume through IndexMe and the Indexing API. Peek at Indexing API fit if you're unsure the property is set up. Track submits in the dashboard. More tool context on the tools hub.
